Collet and Farmer Architects | Private House, Jennings Way, London

This is a Private House for a retired couple in Jennings Way, Arkley London. The new private house that was designed by Collet and Farmer Architects and built on a narrow site in a cul-de-sac of 1980's bungalows. The design seeks to establish a relationship with the neighbouring houses through the use of similar materials, pitched roof profile and height, however the design is modern.

Whilst set amongst bungalows the building has three levels, semi-basement, ground and upper storey within the pitched roof. Planning requirements dictated that upper floors could not have windows which overlook neighbours, so these are recessed. This 2.600sq ft private house was completed in February 2006.

Traditional elements such as the bay windows and chimney stack have been re-interpreted in a contemporary manner.

The centrally positioned fireplace forms a pivotal feature around which the ground floor living spaces are arranged and re-establishes this element of the English House as the central focal point.
